The Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) says it will reach no fewer than 400,000 secondary students on career counselling to stem social vices.

Mr Wasiu Akewusola, the Chairman of APBN, Lagos State Chapter, made this known at a news conference in Lagos on the 2018 Lagos Professionals’ Week (LPW’ 18).

“We need to prepare the future of our next set of professionals and to catch them young at that stage of life,” he said.

Akewusola said the counselling, being part of the association’s week-long activities, would enable students to know that they could be successful as professionals.

He said that the programme slated for Nov. 28 would focus on students in the Lagos Educational District Four (Surulere and its environment).

Akewusola said that the association would also organise free seminar for the civil servants in the state to make them better professionals.

He said that the annual week, which started in 2016 was to make residents feel the impact of the professionals by way of introduction of some CSR in its activities.

Akewusola said that the CSR activities range from market cleaning, visitation to remand homes, free health and legal clinic, among others.

The chairman said that the association was the umbrella body for all recognised professionals in Nigeria.

According to him, Lagos State Chapter of the body is comprised of about 40 per cent of professionals in Nigeria.

He said the association was subdivided into four major sectors that cut across all professionals, namely the construction, financial, medical and administration.

The chairman said that the week-long activities include a public lecture with the theme: “Corruption, Ethics and Good Governance”, with Mr Femi Falana, as the guest speaker.
