President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed former Senate President, Sen. Ken Ugwu Nnamani, to the Septuagenarian Club as the former lawmaker clocked 70 on 2 November.

The President poured encomiums on the former lawmaker as he felicitated with family and friends of the lawmaker, including members of the All Progressive Congress and National Assembly members.

Buhari said Nnamani’s maturity, foresight and wisdom restored stability to the senate between 2005 and 2007, after many years of leadership tussle.

He also affirmed that the wise counsel of the elder statesman has been most candid and helpful for the country.

The President said he believes Nnamani’s wealth of experience of serving in both the private and public sector of the country will be most useful in moving the country, while his uncompromising position on deepening the culture of democracy and good governance remains an asset.

President Buhari prays for longer life, strength and good health for the former Senate President so that he will keep serving the country he loves so much.

Ken Nnamani was born on November 2, 1948 in Enugu.

He attended Ohio University, in Athens in the United States bagging both the BBA and MBA degrees.

After graduation, he worked for Du Pont De Nemours International and Geneva and Nova Chemicals International as marketing executive and later as a consultant.

He was first elected to the senate for Enugu East in 2003.

In the Senate, he was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Federal Character & Governmental Affairs and member of committees on Privatization, Federal Capital Territory and Appropriation and Finance.

He became president of the Senate of Nigeria on April 5, 2005, succeeding Adolphus Wabara. He reigned till the 2007.
