Zamfara state government on Monday said evidence has been established against the over ₦200 bn worth of cases under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) on past administration in the state.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru spoke on the sidelines in Sokoto shortly after been handed 53 tricycles recovered from a contractor by EFCC Zonal Office in Sokoto.
Maru who described the recovery of the tricycles as symbolic said ” billions have been recovered and a lot of that are being expected .”
He, however, added ” but going by the petitions before the state government, it is about ₦2trn. Even the social media reports ₦900bn. But that is not the case, we are working with official record of investigation which is ₦200bn.”
According to the Zamfara state SSG, the recoveries made by the EFCC would surely support the state government drive against poverty as well add value to its economy ” it will also empower individuals by uplifting their socio-economic status .”
Maru noted with joy the change in attitude by contractors in the state particularly those who abandoned their site” many of them have returned to site as a result of EFCC’s proactive approach”, he stated.
Maru further assured that the state government would continue to support the course against corruption ” we are obliged to supply information and documents that will assist EFCC on their mandate to rid the state and nation of financial crime and corrupt activities in all spheres”, he maintained.
