The Yobe State Police Command has decried the current rise in criminal activities following the shutdown of the state’s boundaries to prevent the importation of COVID-19 into the state.

ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s Public Relations Officer in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, indicated that credible information showed a slight increase in burglary, theft, robbery, and other related vices.

The command, through the PPRO advised the general public to be cautious of suspicious activities around them, remain vigilant, report all criminal tendencies, and be security conscious at all times.

Abdulkarim in the statement also said that the command has commenced a clampdown on vehicle owners with unregistered tinted glasses, covered number plates, diplomatic number plates as well as unauthorized deployment of security and escort for persons.

“The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP YS Abubakar (psc) has led a joint operation comprising Police personnel and men of the Federal Road Safety Commission on the use of Tinted Glasses without authorized permit, covered number plate, Spy number plate and diplomatic number plate in the State which commenced on 15th April, 2020.

“The CP further warned members of the general public to desist from such acts in order to enhance the existing security measures put in place in the fight against crimes and criminality in the state,” he warned.

The Commissioner of Police assured good members of the public of their safety and security while they go about their day-to-day lawful activities, as the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic continues.

“Support the Police to serve you better. If you see something, say something,” the CP appealed.
