USOSA advocates 15% of annual national budget for education

Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) has called on the Federal Government to allocate 15 percent of its annual budget to education.

Mr Lawret Wilbert, the newly sworn in President-General of the association, made the call on Saturday in Abuja at the 34th plenary meeting and press conference of the association.

Wilbert reiterated the association’s commitment to partner with federal government to ensure increased allocation to fund education and reposition education in public schools in the country to restore lost glory.

He commended the Federal Government for encouraging state governments to allocate 50 per cent of their budget to education.

“As Leaders, we are focused on promoting unity and the integrity of Nigeria.

“That said, we are also recipients of the best education in the country.

“We commended the Federal Government for encouraging state governments to allocate 50 per cent of their budget to education.

“We also urge federal government to allocate 15 percent of the annual national budget to fund education.

“So, one of the things we will be looking to do, which is our mandate, is to engage the government, the legislature and primary owners of the schools through the Federal Ministry of Education.’’

Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) is a coalition of 104 unity schools comprising Federal Government colleges, Federal Government Boys Colleges, Federal Government Girls Colleges and Federal Science Technical Colleges.

The just concluded 34th plenary meeting produced new executive members of the association with Wilbert as President-General and Michael Magaji as Vice President-General.

Others are Nasir Wasagu as Secretary, Chinedu Amure as Legal Adviser and Sotoye Edohore as Publicity Secretary.
