The United States Mission in Nigeria on Tuesday assured that it will continue to represent the interest of its nationals in Nigeria.
This may not be unconnected with concerns raised in some quarters following the commencement of evacuation of its citizens.
Nigerians.news had reported the country’s announcement of emergency flight arrangements for its people.
This followed the coronavirus outbreak ravaging the world.
The Embassy in a message posted on its Twitter account, urged Americans who wish to remain in Nigeria to respect government directives.
“The U.S. Mission to Nigeria plans to continue to operate and continue the important work of representing the American people here.
“We ask Americans who remain in Nigeria to join us in abiding by the rules the Nigerian Government has established to keep us all healthy and safe”, it read.
Germany is also on the verge of airlifting its citizens in Nigeria, following the footsteps of France and Israel.
Nigeria currently has over 135 cases, Lagos and Abuja are currently on lockdown as a result
The global pandemic has killed nearly 40,000 people worldwide.
COVID-19 broke out in Wuhan, China, and has affected 200 countries.
